Feed Nova Scotia History and Mission
Feed Nova Scotia first opened their doors in 1984, known as the Metro Food Bank Society. Their mandate is to provide emergency food relief within Metro Halifax. At that time the volunteer staff served 12 member food banks and meal programs. In 2002 Metro Food Bank Society became the umbrella organization for food banks across the province and in 2005 the organization rebranded as Feed Nova Scotia.
For over 40 years of operation, and supporting over 130 member agencies, they have recognized that the need is growing and they can’t feed their way out of it. Along with addressing food insecurity they are also working to find long-term solutions to hunger and poverty in Nova Scotia.
